Hot off the announcement of the return of Crash Bandicoot at PlayStation Experience comes news that the same Activision studio working on Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy will also be working on Destiny.
Destiny’s creator and primary developer, Bungie, tweeted the news today:

It’s clear that Activision is building out a team of studios to work on the Destiny franchise, similar to how it has brought in “helper” studios to work on Call of Duty. Vicarious Visions joins High Moon Studios, another Activision developer that is reportedly hard at work on content for Destiny 2.
This seems to be following a plan that Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg talked about earlier this year to provide a steady stream of content and support for Destiny’s sequel. It also lends credence to the leaked report about a PC version of Destiny 2 coming, which also mentioned that Vicarious Visions was working on the Destiny franchise, but there was no way to confirm that detail at the time.
As mentioned, Vicarious Visions is working on Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, but the developer is best known for working on Activision’s Skylanders games, including Skylanders: Swap Force, Skylanders: SuperChargers, and Skylanders: Imaginators Crash Edition. Vicarious Visions was also the studio behind the cancelled Call of Duty: Roman Wars that never made its way out of development.
It’s unknown exactly what Vicarious Visions will be working on within the Destiny franchise, but it is assumed that it will be either support for Destiny 2 or for expansions that follow the sequel. This news also comes just a day after former BioWare lead producer Cameron Lee announced that he was joining Bungie as an executive producer.
It appears that development for Destiny 2 and whatever downloadable content follows is hitting full steam. Virtually nothing is known about the sequel to Bungie’s mega-hit, but fans are turning their attention towards Destiny 2 hoping to learn more. That’s because, outside of The Dawning live event launching later in December, Bungie has revealed nothing about any plans to bring new content to Destiny.
There are definitely big question marks rising up from announcements of Vicarious Visions and High Moon Studios being involved in Destiny‘s development. What each studio is working on exactly and how much control or input Bungie has on that process are definitely of the most concern for fans. However, it should be comforting to fans that Activision is providing Bungie with some big resources to avoid content droughts and gaps in the future.
Destiny: Rise of Iron is available now on Xbox One and PS4.
