It won’t be long now until E3 2015 is underway and gamers the world over are treated to a hodgepodge of new content to salivate over. While the allure of blockbuster game reveals is something that many fans will be almost certainly not want to pass up, even more consumers are excited for updates on a number of previously announced titles. Case in point, the next Crackdown for Xbox One.
Microsoft first confirmed the existence of the title during its press conference at last year’s E3, giving fans a debut trailer that showcased destructible environments and the returning, trademark multiplayer that the series is known for. While impressive, the teaser was entirely CGI, which is why fans have been waiting to get a glimpse of Crackdown 3 in action.
Sticking with this ongoing curiosity, Xbox head Phil Spencer was quick to address a fan on Twitter that was probing to see if the new game would be featured during Microsoft’s E3 2015 press conference. While Spencer apologized for being unable to confirm any games for the showcase, he did confirm that Crackdown has been making “great progress.”
@vittorionzoloo @PNF4LYFE Sorry, not announcing what games are where right now but Crackdown is making great progress.— Phil Spencer (@XboxP3) June 4, 2015
Trying to preserve some of the surprises for the Xbox conference makes a lot of sense, especially since Gears of War Ultimate Edition has already been leaked. That said, if Crackdown for Xbox One truly wasn’t planned to be shown off during the event, it’s more likely that Spencer would have let fans down easy now – similarly to what the head did when rumors of Microsoft purchasing Silent Hills began popping up.
Setting aside our speculation on the matter, another exclusive for the platform is far from a bad thing in the eyes of Xbox fans. Add in the fact that the series’ original creator David Jones is overseeing work on the title, and fans that were disappointed with the franchise’s second installment, Crackdown 2, should hopefully have a lot to look forward to.
With initial speculation pegging the game for a release this year, though, it’s likely that fans will be given an update on the hotly anticipated title sooner rather than later. With that in mind, stay tuned to Game Rant for more details on the next Crackdown as soon as they arrive.
