How I Show Respect to the Man I Love

respect your man

I want to live my life according to God’s Word in the Bible. One of the most beautiful passages that speaks to me is Ephesians 5, where it says that a husband should love his wife just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her.

But I also think about my part. How can I show respect to my boyfriend, or husband, in the same spirit? Just as the church respects and submits to Christ out of love, I want to respect the man I love in a way that pleases God.

How does Christ show love and care for the church?

  • He gave His whole life for her, dying on the cross for us.
  • He cleanses and purifies her with His Word so she becomes beautiful and holy.
  • He cares for her the way a person cares for his own body, nourishing and protecting her.
  • He honors her so much that He sees her as His bride, not just a group of people.

How can I show respect to my boyfriend in the same way?

  • Listen to him with real attention. Just as the church listens to Christ’s voice, I want to listen carefully when he speaks, even when he is tired or stressed. I try to understand his feelings and value his thoughts.
  • Encourage and bring him joy. Christ builds up the church and makes her better. In the same way, I want to speak kind, uplifting words, pray for him, celebrate his successes, and stand by him when he needs support.
  • Take care of him thoughtfully. Just as Christ cares for the church, I try to notice his daily needs. That means cooking something he enjoys, asking about his day, and making our home a peaceful place for him.
  • Honor his place as leader. The Bible says the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church. So I respect his role as the leader in our home. I trust his decisions and choose to support him, even when I have a different opinion. Of course, we talk about things calmly and lovingly.
  • Forgive quickly and be kind. The church is not perfect, yet Christ forgives her every day. I also try to forgive fast, let go of anger, and stay gentle, even during small arguments.

Respect is not weakness; it is strength. It comes from a heart that loves God and loves the person beside me. When I live this way, our relationship feels closer to God’s heart, and we experience a little of the joy Jesus wants for husbands and wives.
